Work Cover

Acupuncture and Massage are approved treatments under work cover.
Providing your Doctor prescribes Acupuncture or Massage after his assessment there should be no problem with a treatment plan being approved under workcover.
You must however have a claim number and approval from your case manager before you can be reimbursed or have work cover pay for your treatments.

Eastern Medicine can submit a treatment plan to your case worker, please find out if this is required.

Your return to work:

Since acupuncture can speed up your recovery time it is favoured by many Insurers.
Insurers are keen for you to recover and often when no other treatment is working have found Acupuncture to be the catylist that gets a person back to work.

Some Functional restrictions limiting return to work:

Clearly functional restrictions limiting return to work and the workers current capacity to perform the task are important when we assess a patient. We work within a plan, with an aim that we have a result by the end of this plan.

Some examples of functional restrictions;

  • Lifting
  • Overhead reach Climbing
  • S squatting.
  • Other restrictions can be identified with regards to the worker’s injury and jobdemands.

In the event that a rehabilitation provider is involved we can request a copy of a workers workplace assessment report if you haven’t already been provided with one. This information is likely to assist with the formulation of appropriate goals and measures.

Barriers to return to work

We can identified barriers to that may inhibit your return to work.

For example, barriers may include the worker’s fear of re-injury, lack of available suitable duties at the workplace, or the continued certification of a worker as totally unfit despite measurable
progress in the worker’s physical capacity.

The barriers identified may not have immediate solutions and we will recommend
strategies that may not necessarily relate to Acupuncture intervention.

For example:
• ‘Fear of re-injury’ may be addressed by recommending referral to a rehabilitation
provider to ensure the duties are safe.
